The economic potential
The city of mining and metallurgic tradition is currently changing
dynamically into the service center and strengthens its position
in the agglomeration of Upper Silesia. The construction and automotive
branches develop. New jobs are created by companies in textile,
food, furniture and plastics branches. Almost 12,600 enterprises
are active in the city, 72 of them are with foreign capital. There

Employment structure and education
There are two university level schools: Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
(The Technical University of Silesia) and the Academy of Business. In the city
there are six secondary schools, five tertiary schools, two schools of arts,
23 primary schools and 11 grammar schools. All schools teach foreign languages-German,
English and French.

In 2004 average gross monthly salary is PLN 2519. Unemployment
rate was 19.9%.
Culture, health protection,
sport and recreation
There are strong cultural centers: the Zagłębie Palace of Culture, the House
of Culture in Ząbkowice and the H. Kołłątaj City Library.

In spite of long-term industrial impact, the city is surprisingly full of
wild-life. The location at the rivers of White and Black Przemsza assures extensive
recreational areas, i.e. the Pogoria lakes with adjacent forests, meadows and
peat bogs. There is a unique Błędowska Desert.

In Dąbrowa Górnicza environmental friendly investments are the main concern.
The heating systems are modernized thanks to the support of the local Environmental
Protection and Water Treatment Fund. There are two sewage treatment plants,
one of them, the"Center"plant is one of the most modern ones in Poland.
More and more companies implement modern and environmental friendly technologies.

In Dąbrowa there are tens of sports and tourism organizations and associations.
