Culture, health protection, sport and recreation

Main cultural institutions: Sosnowiec Theatre of Zaglebie, Museum in the Schoena Palace, Extravagance City Art Gallery, Jan Kiepura Public Library. There is ESKA Slask, a popular radio-station.

Pałac Schoena

Almost a quarter of the city area is taken by parks, green areas, gardens and forests. Six parks are included into the provincial register of monuments. The restructuring of industry influenced the improvement of the natural environment. The air is cleaner and cleaner and water in the city is of class I and II. There are four city and two local sewage treatment plants.
The medical care is provided by seven hospitals for 2000 patients, 27 ambulatories and 67 pharmacies.

With 30 sports clubs and associations the sports culture is deeply rooted there. Basketball players of GKS"Kazimierz-Płomień", "Zagłebie" football players, female team of KKS"Czarni" and hockey players of Sports Championship School represent the city adequately.
